The doors are assembled and the final coats of finish are starting to go on the doors. Hurricane Lee has delayed me a little with the drying time of the finish, but it is looking good. The last thing I am working on is the molding for the exterior of the door jam, and that is coming along as well.
This week I was able to get all of the extra grain fill sanded from the doors and loose molding, and the first coat of top coat was applied. Also the astragail, the central molding spanning the gap between the doors, was fabricated and finished. We also had a small set back as the mortise lock needed to be re-ordered because we had the wrong size. Still, the glass is cut and ready to be installed.
Moving right along. The window trim has been attached for the front with the rear trim left loose. The back window trim and the window glass will both be installed after the doors have been hung to prevent possible breakage of the glass. This means the doors are ready for finish. The doors have been sealed and are ready for grain fill.
I’ve worked out the window trim for the Ryland Street doors. The curved parts could not be made with the router, so I ended up hand carving the cove cut for the trim.

I’ve accomplished a bit of work on the doors this week, and am trying to continue updating everyone. Each day brings me a little closer to finishing this task I have set before me, and it is getting exciting to see the parts come together.
